The main objective of the Village Sanitation Program is to improve the health condition of rural people. This program should be made available to the rural people automatically and they should be made to participate spontaneously by impressing upon them its importance or for this purpose, Sant Gadgebaba Gram Swachhta Abhiyan, Rashtra Sant Tukdoji Maharaj Swachh Gram Parivar are being conducted from the 1st year onwards.
Also, from the year 2002-03, an initiative was started to give special awards to Gram Panchayats at Taluka, District, Department and State level, who have done excellent work in specific areas related to cleanliness and rural development. From the year 2018-19 onwards, new guidelines are issued every year at the government level.
Accordingly, since year 1, in the Sant Gadge Maharaj Gram Swachhta Abhiyan competition, the best division at Gram Panchayat level and the best Gram Panchayat doing great work in the field of district councils are given prizes.
