Vision and Mission

Panchayat Samiti is a rural local self-government body in India. It functions at the taluka (block) level. Panchayat Samiti acts as a link between the Gram Panchayat and the Zilla Parishad. 

Composition of Panchayat Samiti ::

• Members: The Panchayat Samiti consists of elected members, members of the Legislative Assembly, and members of Parliament. Also, seats are reserved for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, women, and other backward classes.
• पदाधिकारी: The head of the Panchayat Samiti is the 'Chairman'. He is elected by the members. The Deputy Chairman is also elected from among the members.
• Block Development Officer (BDO): The Block Development Officer works as the secretary of the Panchayat Samiti. He controls the functioning of the Panchayat Samiti. 

Functions of Panchayat Samiti ::

• To consolidate and evaluate the plans of the Gram Panchayat.
• Identifying problems at the block level and taking measures to resolve them.
• Implementing development works and plans.
• Providing facilities like education, health, roads, water supply.
• Supervising the work of Gram Panchayats. 

Income of Panchayat Samiti ::

Grants, taxes and fees received from the state government, funds received from the Gram Panchayat. 

Relationship between Panchayat Samiti and Gram Panchayat ::

The Panchayat Samiti supervises the work of the Gram Panchayat, the plans of the Gram Panchayat have to be approved by the Panchayat Samiti, the Panchayat Samiti guides the Gram Panchayats. 

Importance of Panchayat Samiti ::

• Panchayat Samiti plays an important role in the development of rural areas.
• She works to solve people's problems and meet their needs.
• She encourages people to participate in the democratic process in rural areas. 

Tasks

• पंचायत समितीची बैठक बोलावून तिचे अध्यक्षपद भूषविणे.
• ग्रामपंचायत अधिकाऱ्यांवर देखरेख व नियंत्रण ठेवणे.
• समितीच्या ठरावांची व निर्णयांची अंमलबजावणी करणे.
• Zilla Parishad व शासन यांच्या आदेशानुसार काम पार पाडणे.
• Controlling development plans.
